object-oriented programming

object-oriented programming
Abbreviated OOP. A programming model that views a program as a set of self-contained objects.
These objects interact with other objects by passing messages. Object-oriented programming also lets you create procedures that work with objects whose exact type may not be known until the program actually runs.
In object-oriented programming, each object contains both data and code and is completely self-contained. The program incorporates an object by making it part of a layered hierarchy. Object-oriented programming is the result of many years of theoretical development, and many consider it the current extension of the theory behind modular programming, in which code is combined into reusable modules.
